Lukas sailing solo
Lukas reports from his solo endeavour in Switzerland.
Just returned from Syz Translémanique en solitaire, I guess the biggest Singlehanded race in middle Europe. More than 100 Sailors gathered in Geneva. Conditions were from superb to hardcore. Easterly “Bise” from 20 to 26 knots sustained, gusts up to 36kts, with a tricky high and short wave. I completed the 74 nm in 11:48 as 30th overall (real time). The seven hours upwind beat made me want to have a proper footrest and a watertight bowsprit. I was bailing buckets after bucket. The return was a blast, although I didn’t dare to hoist the genni nor code since the pilot would just not handle these conditions. I broached several times even with full main and jib. With this configuration I was planing the way back, maxing 14.6 knots boat speed. It would have been even more fun, I wasn’t the only Seascaper there. hope to see some of you next year. The organisation was very professional, but nothing compares to a Seascape Challenge.
